Ex-New Mexico star Everett granted Pitt eligibility

Former Mountain West Conference freshman of the year Jayla Everett will be eligible to play for Pittsburgh this season after receiving a transfer waiver from the NCAA.

The school announced the NCAA decision Thursday. She has two years of her original eligibility remaining, although the NCAA also announced this week that all winter sports athletes will receive an additional year of eligibility.

Everett started 48 games in parts of two seasons at New Mexico before leaving the program this past January. She transferred to Pitt in April.

A top-100 recruit out of St. Louis, Everett was voted the Mountain West’s best freshman after she averaged 13.3 points and 3.6 assists per game for New Mexico during the 2018-19 season.

She averaged 10.9 points and 3.4 assists per game in 21 appearances as a sophomore.

Everett figures to be key contributor for the Panthers, who are 13-67 in the ACC over the past five seasons.
